Named one of PDN’s Rising Stars for 2012!!!!

So, a few months ago I received an email from PDN (Photo District News) saying that someone (STILL have no idea who) nominated me to apply for the Rising Stars competition. I remember reading it over & over & over because I simply couldn’t believe it. With the help of some critical eyes, I submitted a brief portfolio to them. Then, a month ago….a month ago (it’s been torturous to not tell) I found out that I had actually been chosen. I still can’t believe it. Honestly. To the person that nominated me…I will FOREVER be thankful.

Back in college I would read PDN (and still do!) admiring all of their featured photographers. To be included in this incredibly special collection of photographers seemed so far off but I had hoped that, one day, it would happen. Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive of my work-you’re like family to me.

xoxoKatie

Heath Ceramics.

I knew going out to San Fran that one of my little side trips just had to be the Heath Ceramics factory in Sausalito. I had been dying to see their tile (potentially for our new kitchen and/or bathroom) in person but ended up wanting to take everything home with me…stupid airport weight limit. Also, I found out that you can register here for your wedding. What a great idea!

This blue geometric tile is the actual tile I wanted to see and it’s the pattern from the new Dwell Magazine series.

Brix.

My friend took me to Brix in Napa for brunch and it was, by far, one of the most amazing meals I’ve ever had. I probably looked like an idiot walking around with a plate of food and trying to take photos at the same time BUT I was excited to be there. Enjoy post #3 of today!

xoxoKatie

You can rent the space out for weddings & events too! I absolutely love the yellow/white draping.

Of course the wine is unbelievable there.

Bouchon Bakery.

While in Napa, we went to the original Bouchon Bakery which was SO tiny but worth the wait. If you ever get to go…definitely grab a box of their sea salt caramels.

Californ-i-a

Hello everyone! How in the world is it Friday already!?!

These photos are from a recent trip out to San Francisco to help a fellow photographer shoot a wedding; however, please forgive the huge amount of beach & ocean photos. I looove the sound of the water and the dark color of the ocean in Northern California so I just couldn’t stop snapping away. I will be posting several groups of photos throughout today so I can purge my computer of the massive amount of photos from the trip. I hope you enjoy them!!! (ps. they were all shot with film…either fuji 400h, 160s, or kodak portra 400)

Below was, by far, the BEST blueberry brioche at a coffee shop called Coffee Bar.

In-n-out is necessary—no ifs ands or buts…it’s necessary. I always get a double double animal style AND (I can’t believe I’m publicly disclosing this…) fries animal style. Holy Cow.

Mmmmmmmmm…..greasy diner food. Yum!

I wish I could surf!

This is such a beautiful entrance to a home outside of Sausalito.

This sweet dog’s name is Stinson…like the beach and he is as sweet at peach pie.

The Sutro Baths is one of the coolest places to visit. This is what they used to look like! (click link)

There is a rock wall tunnel that goes through one of the big hills along the ocean. I felt like I was a little kid exploring. Tons of fun!

Ocean beach:

Not too bad of a place to clear your thoughts, right?

Sculpture garden in Napa.

A rainy day at Muir Beach.

Succulents are everrrrywhere there which happen to be my favorite plant. People always told me that they’re hard to kill…I actually have never had a hard time killing them (haha) but I still love them!

One day, perhaps when I’m 80, I will live in this house or on this hill.
