So, a few months ago I received an email from PDN (Photo District News) saying that someone (STILL have no idea who) nominated me to apply for the Rising Stars competition. I remember reading it over & over & over because I simply couldn’t believe it. With the help of some critical eyes, I submitted a brief portfolio to them. Then, a month ago….a month ago (it’s been torturous to not tell) I found out that I had actually been chosen. I still can’t believe it. Honestly. To the person that nominated me…I will FOREVER be thankful.
Back in college I would read PDN (and still do!) admiring all of their featured photographers. To be included in this incredibly special collection of photographers seemed so far off but I had hoped that, one day, it would happen. Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive of my work-you’re like family to me.
xoxoKatie

I loved this brief moment when Ashley’s bridesmaids were “oooing & ahhhing” over her amazing dress.
I’m always amazed at how fast guys get dressed…perhaps a little jealous too haha.
Kevin waited so patiently for Ashley to arrive at the Lincoln Memorial for their first look.
The moment before they see one another with SUCH anticipation.
Then we headed back to the Georgetown University’s campus where the ceremony was going to be held.
Ashley rented vintage & different umbrellas for each bridesmaid in case it rained. Well, it hailed. Good call, Ashley!
The cobblestone streets of Georgetown add so much charm.
All of the bridal party was introduced into the Carnegie wearing masks of former/current politicians. How funny is that!?!
It was hard to take photos because I couldn’t stop laughing…
Ashley’s dance with her grandfather was something I knew she was looking forward to and it was such a soft & meaningful moment in the evening.
Lovely shades of green & navy blue filled the room to honor where they first met… at Georgetown University.
Window’s Catering did an incredible job and the food was out of this world delish.
At the end of the night, Ashley & Kevin had arranged for their favorite sandwich to be passed around on the dance floor.
The guests didn’t have any difficulty getting into the photobooth spirit!

I’m so happy for Jillian & Josh because tomorrow is their big wedding day in DC. It’s supposed to be 101 degrees (eek!) but who cares, right…love is in the air.
Here are some shots from their DC engagement shoot. All were shot using Kodak Portra 400.
Have a great weekend everyone and be careful in that heat!

I love gay weddings. They are FILLED with sincere happiness and joy. John & Paul were fortunate enough to have their wedding at the Cosmos Club in DC after being partners for 18 years. The ornate ballroom had the guests gasping and the warm glow of the room was a direct reflection of everyone’s laughter and genuine kindness throughout the day.
I couldn’t be happier for these two incredible people!

PS- Peggy Marilley & Allison Campbell from Precision Meetings & Events put this entire wedding together. They did a hands down fantastic job!!!
Jack Lucky created all of the amazing florals. These cherry blossom bouts were perfect for an early Spring DC wedding!
I love that they walked to the “altar” together.
